Best Water Falls in Rewa | Keoti Falls | Purwa Falls | Tourist Destinations in Rewa | MP Tourism

Rewa – known as the city of white tigers is situated in the north east region of current Madhya Pradesh State. It has the privilege of being the capital city of erstwhile Vindhya Pradesh and holds the legacy of Baghel Dynasty. It is located 131 miles south of Allahabad on national highway-1 and well connected via indian railways from all corners of India. Rewa region constructs a part of the Vindhya plateau of Madhya Pradesh state and is irrigated by Tons ( Tamsa River) and its tributaries like Beehar.

I happen to come from one of the villages in this lovely city and during one of my visit to home I along with my brother embarked on a day trip to explore beautiful locales in close proximity. We set out in early morning around 8 AM to Keoti Falls which was approaximately 28 KM from our village house and reached there in about 45 minutes.

Keoti Waterfall

Created by Mahana river stream Keoti fall is the 24th highest waterfalls in India and is a popular tourist destination among local people and tourist visiting Rewa. It is highly rcommended to capture sunset and sunrise view as it is something incredible to watch. It was an amzing sound of water crescendo falling down from the height of about 90m with remains of old fort in the back drop. World waterfall data reflects height of keoti fall 130 meters (430 Feet ). We enjoyed and clicked few snaps of the majestic scenery all around before shifting our attention to old remains of heritage keoti fort that sits pretty on the plateu beside mahana river bank. Now it was time to move towards Chachai Falls which is about 20-22 kms en route via Sirmaur Semariya Road.

Note - Keoti Falls is located about 37 km from Rewa City center. You can reach to this amazing place by your own vehicle/cab or local transportation. It is well connected to main city and other tourist attractions like Chachai & Purwa falls.

Chachai falls
Situated on Beehar river (a tributary of Tamsa /Tons river) these falls are the second highest waterfalls in Madhya Pradesh with a height of 130 meters. These are considered amongst one of the highest single-drop waterfalls in India. It was once praised by former Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru for its breathtaking beauty. However, that time is long gone since a river diversion was created that split all the water flow of Beehar (Bihad) river in two halves, one for generation of Electricity at Toans Hydroelectric Power Plant and another half for irrigation in nearby villages. This alteration leaves absolutely no water for the waterfalls during half of the year. When we reached it was a thin stream falling down from 100 m heigh mountain rocks. It is recommended to visit this fall from July-Sep to witness these falls in full glory.

There is a view point and guest house beside the chahchai falls which can be leveraged to relax and rejuvenate. After spending some time amid rocks and valley arround we made our move towards Purwa Falls which was in close proximity (about 10 Kms).

Purwa Water Falls

We reached purwa falls in 15 mins and it was an exciting moment to comprehend the roaring sound of  stream charging down from the height of 200 feet (67 m) and presenting one heck of a view while creating an illusion of milky smoke. The falls are intense and an enormous volume of water falls every second. The Falls are on River Toans ( Tamsa). The surrounding have been developed to host people who could have a family get together and picnic. It also had a guest house of MP tourism whcih can be leveraged to spend a day/night to stay in the blissful company of the amzing scenery.
